§ 22-17. Disconnection of service for nonpayment of bills.
(1)
The parish water department is authorized and directed to discontinue water service to a customer for nonpayment of the water bill. Water service may be discontinued only upon the following conditions:
(a)
When the water bill becomes delinquent.
(b)
Notification by mail of the impending termination at least ten (10) days in advance of the cutoff.
A water bill shall be considered delinquent when the gross amount of the bill becomes due.
(2)
Once water services have been discontinued, a fee for reconnecting and returning a customer to normal service shall be imposed as follows:
(a)
A twenty dollar ($20.00) late fee shall be charged for returning a customer to normal service.
(b)
If it becomes necessary to remove the meter in order to discontinue service an additional thirty dollars ($30.00) shall be charged. In addition any damaged parish equipment will be repaired and billed to the customer under section 22-5. Example of this is breaking the lock or stop that holds the lock.
(c)
If the bill remains unpaid for ninety (90) days the parish may remove the meter and terminate service to the account. Deposit funds will be applied to the bill and any excess will be returned to the customer or a balance due statement will be sent to the customer (or the excess amount will be written off).
