§ 22-5. Turning water on after it has been shut off.

  • (1)

    No person not authorized by the parish water department shall reconnect, turn on or attempt to reconnect or turn on the water supply to a premises after such has been shut off or discontinued by the parish water department for nonpayment of a due bill or violation of rules and regulations of the water department or for any other just causes.

    (2)

    Further, no person shall damage the water meter, parish service connection, valves, meter box, or devices placed in or on the meter or box. If such items are damaged the person or business in whose name the meter is registered shall be billed for the full replacement cost of such items at the then current cost to replace the item plus labor and materials to install and/or repair the meter and ancillary equipment. The consumer will have the option to pay the cost in full or in equal installments over a three-month period, in addition to the consumer's current bill.

    (3)

    If any customer, person or entity makes a verbal, written, or other threat or physically assaults any water department employee in the normal course of work they will be subject to charges at the discretion of the courts.
