§ 2-55. Department of engineering and public works.

  • (a)

    The department of engineering and public works is hereby created. The commissioner of engineering and public works shall be the executive head of the department of engineering and public works and as such shall have jurisdiction over traffic engineering and safety; all parish roads, streets, bridges and ferries, including their planning, design, construction, repair, operation and maintenance. The commissioner of engineering and public works shall have supervision over the parish engineer. The department of engineering and public works shall do and perform such other designing and engineering work as may be directed by the council.

    (b)

    Without in any manner limiting the generality of the foregoing, the department of engineering and public works shall be responsible for the following budget units: Engineering; paved and unpaved highways; bridges; street drainage; sign department and ferries' maintenance.
