§ 2-57. Department of culture, recreation and tourism.

(a)

The department of culture, recreation and tourism is hereby created. The commissioner of culture, recreation and tourism shall be the executive head of the department of culture, recreation and tourism and as such shall have jurisdiction over all public gymnasiums, playgrounds and recreational programs and facilities. He shall be a member and ex officio chairman of the parish library advisory board. He shall be responsible for planning, developing and implementing improved opportunities for the enjoyment of cultural and recreational activities, opportunities and resources by the people of the parish and for the greater development of their cultural and physical potential. He shall be responsible for the development, maintenance and operation of the public library, parks, recreation, museums and other cultural facilities, the parish-wide development and implementation of cultural, recreational and tourism programs and planning for the future leisure needs of the people.

(b)

Without in any manner limiting the generality of the foregoing, the department of culture, recreation and tourism shall be responsible for the following budget units: Parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, golf courses; swimming pools; parish recreation; library; community centers; vocational-technical schools; beautification parishwide; school bus transportation and maintenance.
