§ 7-27. Creation and composition.

  • (a)

    The environmental advisory committee for the parish is hereby created and established. The committee shall consist of eleven (11) members, ten (10) of whom shall be appointed by the council to represent the following departments of parish government; the eleventh member shall be the councilman of the district in which the permit is located:

    (1)

    Safety.

    (2)

    Public works, roads and streets.

    (3)

    Drainage and levees.

    (4)

    Sewerage, water and sanitation.

    (5)

    Port authority.

    (6)

    Planning and zoning.

    (7)

    Economic development.

    (8)

    Health and environment.

    (9)

    Social and recreation.

    (10)

    Legal and natural resources.

    (b)

    All members of the environmental advisory committee shall serve without compensation and the ten (10) appointed members shall be responsible for their respective departments. The first chairman of this newly created committee shall be selected by the council from the ten (10) appointed members. After the first year, the chairmanship shall be by annual election from within the membership itself. All vacancies shall be automatically filled by council appointment.
