§ 7-54. License required.

  • (a)

    No person shall install, maintain, alter or repair within the parish any electric wiring, device, appliance or equipment unless such person shall have received an electrical contractor's license, nor shall any person except a person employed by and working under the direction of a holder of an electrical contractor's license or an electrical maintenance license, in any manner undertake to execute any work of installing, maintaining, altering or repairing any electric wiring, device, appliance or equipment unless such person shall have received and/or has renewed an electrical contractor's license or an electrical maintenance license.

    (b)

    Such licensee shall have applied to the electrical inspector for and has received a permit to do such work, upon the payment of the permit fees by section 7-81.

    (c)

    No license shall be required in order to execute any of the following classes of work:

    (1)

    Minor repair work, such as the replacement of lamps and the connection of portable devices to suitable receptacles which have been permanently installed, which does not require or include wiring or repairs to electric wiring.

    (2)

    The installation, alteration or repair of wiring, devices, appliances or equipment for the operation of signals or the transmission of intelligence where such wiring, device, appliances or equipment operate at a voltage not exceeding fifty (50) between conductors and do not include generating or transforming equipment capable of supplying more than fifty (50) watts of energy.

    (3)

    The installation, alteration or repair of electric wiring, devices, appliances and equipment installed by or for an electrical public service corporation for the use of such a corporation in the generation, transmission, distribution or metering of electrical energy, or for the use of such a corporation in the operation of signals or the transmission of intelligence.

    (4)

    Any work involved in the manufacture, test, or repair of electric materials, devices, appliances or apparatus, but not including any permanent wiring other than that required for testing purposes.

    (5)

    The assembly, erection and connection of electric apparatus and equipment by the manufacturer of such apparatus and equipment, but not including any electric wiring other than that involved in making electrical connections on the apparatus or equipment itself or between two (2) or more parts of such apparatus or equipment.
