Article I. IN GENERAL |
§ 2-6. Policy regarding Parish Vehicle Assignment Guidelines and Regulations.
The following policy regarding parish vehicle assignment guidelines and regulations is hereby established:
I. Vehicle Assignment Guidelines:
The requirements for a parish employee to qualify for a parish vehicle are as follows:
(a)
The employee must drive a minimum of eight thousand (8,000) miles per year on parish business.
(b)
The employee has no other parish vehicle that may be shared within the department or that may be available from a carpool at a parish office building.
(c)
The employee's immediate supervisor and director must recommend the employee for vehicle [use] and the parish president must approve same.
(d)
The employee must abide by the following regulations governing the use of the parish vehicle.
II. Regulations Governing the Use of Parish Vehicles:
(a)
Parish vehicles are to be used strictly, solely and specifically for official parish business purposes.
(b)
The parish vehicle must have the Plaquemines Parish decal placed on the front door on each side of the vehicle.
(c)
Parish vehicles are to be driven by parish employees only.
(d)
Only parish employees are to be a passenger or rider in a parish vehicle unless said passenger or rider is on official parish business.
(e)
Alcoholic beverages may not be transported in a parish vehicle at any time.
(f)
Employees must operate the parish vehicle in a safe and careful manner at all times.
(g)
The employee assigned to the parish vehicle is responsible for normal driver maintenance of the vehicle. Normal maintenance shall include, but is not limited to:
(1)
Checking and maintaining proper air level in the tires.
(2)
Checking oil levels and coolant in the radiator.
(3)
Checking and keeping the windshield wipers, headlights, directional signals and stop signals operative.
III. Penalties:
An employee who violates the above regulations governing the use of a parish vehicle shall be subject to the following penalties:
(1)
First violation, three (3) days' suspension without pay.
(2)
Second violation, immediate termination.
