§ 2-58. Department of safety and permits.

(a)

The department of safety and permits is hereby created. The commissioner of safety and permits shall be executive head of the department of safety and permits and as such shall have jurisdiction over fire protection, civil defense and the enforcement of the building, sewage, electrical, fire prevention and protection and related technical codes. He shall supervise the examination and licensing provisions of such codes. He shall have charge and control of granting building and other permits required pursuant to such codes.

(b)

Without in any manner limiting the generality of the foregoing, the department of safety and permits shall be responsible for the following budget units: Sheriff; traffic officers; fire protection; special correctional facilities; protective inspection (permits); civil defense; safety engineer; ambulance service; itinerant labor I.D. office; special investigator; boat harbors, boat ways; and floodgates.
