§ 15-11. Usage fees for parish ferries crossing the Mississippi River.

  • (a)

    Effective February 1, 2016 every vehicle crossing the Mississippi River on a parish ferry, whether west or east bound, shall be subject to a fee assessed at the time of embarkation, this including Belle Chasse and Pointe A La Hache ferry service. The new fees are as follow:

    (1)

    Motorcycles ..... $1.00

    (2)

    Per vehicle with two (2) axles ..... 1.00

    (3)

    For any vehicle with three (3) or more axles, boat, trailers, etc. ..... 2.00

    Cash only no change and no refunds.

    (b)

    Police, Fire, EMS, Plaquemines Parish Government vehicles, Plaquemines Parish School Board buses and vehicles, while on official business and displaying the appropriate decals, shall be exempt from the per capita transportation fee imposed in subsection (a). All other exceptions are hereby rescinded, to include:

    (1)

    Red and yellow stickers, Plaquemines Parish employees, employees of a public agency such as judges, district attorney, assessor, clerk of court, coroner, and Plaquemines Parish public and private school employees, except as provided for in this section.

    (c)

    Plaquemines Parish employees with a regular 40-hour work week schedule of Monday through Friday shall be exempt from ferry fees on all non-holiday weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when driving their personal vehicles upon presentation of a PPG photo I.D. card.

    (d)

    Plaquemines Parish Sheriffs Office employees with a regular 40-hour work week schedule of Monday through Friday shall be exempt from ferry fees on all non-holiday weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., when driving their personal vehicles upon presentation of a photo I.D. card obtained from the Plaquemines Parish Government.

    (e)

    Citizens over the age of sixty-five (65) years of age, Medicare and disabled residents shall be exempt from any fees provided proper documentation is provided.

    (f)

    Payment of fee: The administration shall submit a plan of operation to this council detailing the system by which the fee is collected from the operator of the vehicle while boarding the vessel.

    (g)

    Revenues dedicated. Those fees generated by this section are hereby especially dedicated to maintenance and preservation of all facilities associated with said ferries and to operating the ferries in accordance with that service provided as of February 1, 2016.
